Dorothy Wordsworth frequently makes reference to walking in Easedale in her Grasmere Journal and in this entry from December 6th 1801, she talks of how she and her brother walked ‘backwards & forwards’ in a field while looking at the beautiful landscape which surrounded them and which they loved so much:
A very fine beautiful sunshiny morning – William worked a while at Chaucer then we set forward to walk into Easedale…We went up into Easedale & walked backwards & forwards in that flat field which makes the second circle of Easedale with that beautiful Rock in the field beside us & all the rocks & the woods & the mountains enclosing us round. The Sun was shining among them, the snow thinly scattered upon the tops of the mountains.
